Young students with aspirations to be drummers often show up at the first lesson with fantastic expectations of learning to play drum set and end up leaving their first lesson disenchanted and disappointed. Most primary texts that teach basic technique, musical structure, and reading don’t include such studies, offer no accommodation for such eager students, and many instructors are at a loss with how to overcome such a hurdle.
Appendix A begins with coordinating left and right hands to play separate rhythms and could, if push comes to shove, be introduced lesson #1 with rhythms as simple as quarter notes!
